Dwitiyo Purush (2020)

Dwitiyo Purush is a 2020 Indian Bengali thriller film, directed by Srijit Mukherjee and produced by Shree Venkatesh Films. The film stars Parambrata Chatterjee, Raima Sen, Anirban Bhattacharya .

It is a sequel (spin-off according to some reviews, since the character of Chatterjee, the second lead in the prequel is now the protagonist and central character here) to the 2011 crime thriller, Baishe Srabon. The film follows the arresting of a new serial killer, Khoka, by the now DCDD Abhijit Pakrashi. It shows Abhijit Pakrashi’s life in a greater detail, showing many twists and turns in the film. Dwitiyo Purush is a sequel of Baishe Srabon were Prosenjit Chatterjee dies at the end. In this film we will see Parambrata chattopadhyay as a police inspector who follows the path that Prasenjit Chatterjee showed him in Baishe Srabon to fight with criminals in various regions of kolkata. It was theatrically released on 23 January 2020, as a tribute to detective writers, Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle. It quickly garnered a cult following and is considered to be one of the best crime thrillers of Bengali cinema. In March 2023, it was announced that a prequel crossover of Baishe Srabon and Vinci Da will be released in Puja 2023, making Dwitiyo Purush the third installment of Mukherjee’s planned cop universe. It is finally revealed that Abhijit had actually regained his memory after suffering from temporary amnesia, but never disclosed it to his adopted family. He pounced on the opportunity to clean his slate and became an extremely honest police officer. Abhijit visits a fast food stall, which he used to frequent before 1993, as Khoka, and orders his favourite dishes, which he used to enjoy then. He then takes out a 1 rupee coin, which he collected from Paltan’s body, which was actually given to Paltan by Abhijit’s adoptive mother, when she mistakenly thought of Paltan as a beggar. He tosses the coin up in the air and smiles as he finally cuts loose the ends of his old identity as Khoka and cherishes his new life as ‘Abhijit’.
