A young Goodbye daughter desiring independence is constantly at loggerheads with her father in a battle of ‘logic vs tradition’ as the duo tries to wrap their heads around her mother’s untimely demise.
The story of Goodbye movie centres on a dysfunctional household. Lawyer Tara (Rashmika Mandanna) stays in with her partner Mudassar (Shivan Narang) in Bengaluru. She leaves to party after winning her first case. Tara doesn’t respond to calls or messages from her mother Gayatri (Neena Gupta). She finds out that Gayatri has died when her father Harish (Amitabh Bachchan) calls the same day.
To be with Harish, she quickly travels to her birthplace of Chandigarh. Three more children, Karan (Pavail Gulati), Harish’s eldest son, who lives in San Francisco, Nakul, his second son and an adoptive son named Angad, lives in Dubai also belongs to Harish. They are all gone. Additionally, Karan and Angad book the first Chandigarh flight that comes up. Meanwhile, Nakul is unavailable. The first person there is Tara. She and Harish disagree about the burial rites, and they argue about them.
Harish is also furious with Karan and Angad since he thinks they don’t seem affected by the death of their mother. Fights break out in the home because of Harish’s behaviour. However, none of them have a choice. For a few days, they must live together under one roof. The remainder of the movie is based on what occurs next.
