Haddi is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language crime drama film directed by Akshat Ajay Sharma and produced by Zee Studios along with Anandita Studios. The film stars an Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Anurag Kashyap and Ila Arun in key roles.[1][2][3] Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays a double role in the film, one of which is transgender.
A transgender woman, Haddi, moves to Delhi to join a gang of transpeople and cross-dressers headed by an influential man. But is this move aspirational or driven by revenge? The film released on 7 September 2023 via ZEE5. The film was announced in August 2022 with a teaser poster of Nawazuddin Siddiqui as a transgender person.[7][8] The shoots started soon after. It was shot across western Uttar Pradesh including Noida and Ghaziabad. Midway through the shoots, Nawaz shared a video of the three-hour daily process to get ready for the shoots. A tale of revenge and retribution set in the world of transgender people, ‘Haddi’ broadens its base to take in land-grabbing politicians and vicious goons. It begins as an intriguing, ultra-violent peep into a world we don’t know much about, and till it stays in that zone, this Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer keeps us engaged. As many young boys who learn that their assigned gender isn’t a good fit, Hari would rather be Harika. As the grown-up Haddi (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), having undergone the painful transformation to the other side under the supervision of soul mother Revathy Amma (Ila Arun), flashes back to childhood, we can see how much she wants to just live a life of acceptance and dignity. And how the world is stacked against her, and others like her.
