Mission Raniganj (2023)

Mission Raniganj The Great Bharat Rescue is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language historical drama thriller film[2] directed by Tinu Suresh Desai and produced by Pooja Entertainment.[3][4] Written by Vipul K Rawal, it is based on the Raniganj Coalfields collapse of 1989, in West Bengal. The film stars Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra.

A real-life story of additional chief mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill who helped in the rescue of people when a coal mine in Raniganj, West Bengal, was flooded. The incident dates back to 1989. The principal photography commenced in July 2022 and the film is primarily shot in the United Kingdom. The filming ended in August 2023 with a song, which was followed by post-production works. The cinematography is done by Aseem Mishra, and the music is composed by Satinder Sartaaj, Prem-Hardeep, Arko, Vishal Mishra and Gaurav Chatterji. Mission Raniganj was theatrically released on 6 October 2023.[6] The film received mixed to positive reviews from critics,[7] with praise for the direction, screenplay and performances and criticism for the poor visual effects. The film was announced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh under their banner Pooja Entertainment.[11] It is based on the life of Jaswant Singh Gill who rescued 65 mine workers during the Raniganj Coalfields collapse of 1989 in West Bengal. The film was initially titled Capsule Gill , which was later changed to The Great Indian Rescue.[13] In September 2023, with the poster release, the name was changed to Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue. The principal photography commenced in July 2022, with Akshay Kumar.[19] Parineeti Chopra and other actors joined the set in August 2022.[20] The film is primarily shot in the United Kingdom with few portion also shot in Raniganj, IIT Dhanbad Campus and Mumbai.[21] In August 2023, a song was shot in Mumbai.
