Fearless and bold DCP Brinda Basu becomes Nikhoj desperate to track down the person behind her daughter’s disappearance. Amidst the truth and lies, will Brinda be able to get back her daughter fighting against the odds?
The family of an enforced disappearance victim has accused OTT platform Chorki’s six-episode web series titled Nikhoj, written and directed by Reehan Rahman, of insensitive portrayal. In an open letter addressed to Reehan Rahman, which was sent to different media outlets, Monorom Polok, son of photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol, made the accusation. Photojournalist Nikhoj Shafiqul Islam Kajol was a victim of enforced disappearance. He was missing for 53 days and then landed in jail where he spent seven months before being granted bail in 2020. I, along with my family, watched your confusing series over two days, which at times felt like paid content from those in power. Frankly, “Nikhoj” utterly disgusted my father and he could not bring himself to watch it…,’ the letter reads. Polok also accused in the letter that some of the characters in the OTT series bear some resemblance to his family members and the promotional poster of the series is an imitation of a poster Polok created using his family photo during a campaign titled Where is Kajol?, which Polok launched after his father went missing. When contacted, Reehan Rahman said, ‘I came to know about Kajol’s disappearance incident after reading the open letter. During the entire process of writing and creating the series, we did not copy anything from real-life incidents. Everything in this series is fictional.’
